Desperate Housewives: The Game might just as well be called The Sims: Desperate Housewives. While there are certainly sillier ideas than slapping a coat of soap-opera-colored paint on gameplay ripped straight from EA’s ridiculously successful series, hanging out on a virtual version of the most screwed-up street on television isn’t the pop-culture slam-dunk it should be. As the TV show itself is fond of noting, appearances can be quite deceiving.

Appearances are actually the game’s best asset. Credit goes to Liquid—yes, the same guys who gave us RTS gems like Battle Realms and Dragonshard—for making the virtual versions of Eva Longoria and Teri Hatcher look surprisingly good. Given the recent spate of games that reduce celebs to pixelated freaks (see Matrix: Path of Neo and King Kong), this qualifies as a major accomplishment.

The rest of the game feels more familiar than a season-one rerun. As a new housewife on the block, you spend your hours navigating conversation trees with the wacky women of Wisteria Lane, trying to root out your neighbors’ dirt and uncover your own shady, amnesiac past. There’s a definite What Lies Beneath vibe going on. Oh, and you have to maintain your appearance, happiness, and social meters by primping, shopping, and slapping Bree Van de Kamp, which somehow never gets old.

In case there was lingering doubt as to the game’s target audience, a series of mind-numbing minigames are here to stay. Mouse-clicking to chop ingredients for hubby’s dinner? Spraying garden pests? Blatantly cheating Gabrielle and Lynette out of their cash at the neighborhood game of Texas Hold ’Em? Check, check and check.

Love this game, but.....(Please read and consider to apply)

The game has a lot of different story lines in a sense, where we have our own lives to figure out to our dating lives in the games and more. I love the different decorations and furniture we get to buy, but they are just very expensive. And to be honest, we don’t get enough money doing the little quests or side quests to get the expensive furniture or clothing. It is like you expect us to buy more money or energy, which bring me to the second problem. This problem is that there isn’t enough energy that would last me at least 10 minutes. All the energy would be already spent after a small amount of time and I just wish that the energy would not have to recharge for 1 energy every 5 minutes which is stupid. I probably have 110 for max of energy to say and multiply it by 5 is 550 minutes to fill the entire bar would take about an entire 9 hours which is very time consuming. Now you might say, “ Maybe you should just wait a certain amount of time for the bar to fill to a certain amount then play and continue doing that,” though the problem is it is just a sense of a waste of time for me. I love this game so far after a week of day by day waiting just for the bar to fill up with energy and money to earn to unlock places, but no, I can’t. Just to let you know I am on the second episode about to approach the third after many quests to find clues but sadly run out of energy. WHAT DO YOU KNOW?????

Pro’s: Awesome game, the free edition is great. It’s a simple, tap and click and pick, simple game. I never watched the show, but I love this game. Great graphics and pretty women characters. Very interactive and you get to do quite a bit before your energy runs out. Your character is very customizable with a good amount of pretty and realistic looking for graphics. Some decent and affordable items for purchase you earn playing the game and signing on everyday.
Con’s: Most items you have to purchase are too expensive with the money you earn and there are too many levels you have to unlock in order to obtain many items. It takes too many taps to do quests. So you get to do up to like 3 on the free version, but as users, using our time to play their game and up their numbers, give us more.

Still missing something

So I downloaded this on my iPod touch a little after it first came out on iOS. I played it for awhile but ended up uninstalling it. I just recently redownloaded it on my iPhone. I was very happy that I can now change my characters eye color and intrigued by the new job and romance options. I don’t even mind that Nick has been killed off because they did it in total desperate housewives fashion. I always try to not get my hopes up as far as these type of click and wait for energy games go. They are often so Money driven that you’re basically not going to do well without spending real cash. They also tend to have an illusion of choice. However between the need to spend real money and some pre-set story lines you’re basically forced to go along with the main characters often dumb and out right possibly self sabotaging choices. For example this MC keeps spilling her guts to Officer Sage. She discovers new info and immediately has a quest to go spill her guts to him and basically show all her cards even though I’m not sure if he can be trusted. The main reason I can’t five star this game is that it’s still missing one ESSENTIAL thing that I thought was the norm for most games like this Which is Energy refill upon Leveling! With any other game like this that I have played leveling means you get a precious refill of energy and get to make it that much further in the story.
