We haven't even gotten to E3 2019 yet but we're already getting big gaming announcements. Sega revealed the final list of games for the Sega Genesis Mini, and even added an extra surprise: instead of the 40 games it initially promised, Sega announced an additional 12 today, bringing the total number of Genesis classics to 42.Among the newly announced games are Road Rash II and the 8MB wonder, Strider. Perhaps even cooler is the addition of games that never officially came to the Sega Genesis, including Monster World IV, Tetris, and Darius. Sega said E3 2019 attendees will be among the first in the world to play the Genesis port of Tetris (Tetris came to the Mega Drive in 1989, but Nintendo had US distribution rights at the time).Monster World IV was previously only playable for Genesis through Virtual Console, PSN or Xbox Live Arcade, repro cart, or on the Sega Ages 2500 Series port for the PlayStation 2. Darius also never had a proper Sega Genesis home release. Such is the magic of M2.

Given the list of games, the Genesis Mini beats out the NES Classic and Super NES Classic just by sheer volume. However, previous licensed Genesis consoles have had more games, but the quality was closer to the PlayStation Classic. In other words, not good.

Sega Genesis Mini Games List

Some of the best 16-bit games of all time are included on the Sega Genesis Mini. The legendary M2 is handling the Genesis Mini software, and it built its reputation by going above and beyond. Sticking with that theme, Sega and M2 are bringing 42 games to Genesis Mini, two more than initially promised.
